Does anyone know if MS Word 5.5 is screenreader Accessible and if so, which screenreader works the best with it? Also, can I get a list of basic commands, or at least the help command, since I've never used it? I might have to install it temporarily, or maybe longer, not sure yet. It's freeware but the file's too big to fit on a 3.5 inch floppy and I don't have the Compaq with the cd rom and compact flash back yet. I could always use Keysoft, but really don't wanna get to used to that as I know I won't be able to use it once I switch machines. It's a tiny bit clunky when it comes to saving files as txt anyway. I wish they made WP5.1 freeware.

Be patient as I'm still checking on this and may have found something to help.

I was told that the help key is f1. I think what I'll do is download the large file from Microsoft and play with it via the command.com prompt from XP. As much as I hate "fake" DOS, right now, it's the only option I have for trying this program, unless I can find a download with smaller files.

Wow! Oh my! I found a delicious page of goodies!
http://www.dossolutions.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/
Wordprocessor/office programs, pdf reader, cd reader/writer, archiving software, partition programs, various utilities, internet tools, MS Word converters/viewers, html writer/viewer. And this is only one page! There's still that other huge one from awhile ago that I have to find and sort. Me a very very happy computer user right now. Hell, I can now do stuff on DOS that I can't do on Windows or Leopard! Niiiiice. Will try said wordprocessors for accessibility.

So it is not free yet? I am wondering how much proffit they can get out of it? I would imagine it would be abandonware software by now.

No, unfortunately, it's not. And I can't find it to download anywhere! One of those programs that I downloaded is in .mimz format, so now I need a converter for that. Grrr. Maybe, I really will just go and buy WP5.1. The MS Word is a .bin file. That should be interesting.

Opa!!! I got it! Thanks to an incredibly wonderful friend, I downloaded wordperfect 5.1 for free right off of vetusware.com! No more wondering about this or that wordprocessor and searching for manuals. I might still try MS Word, cause I am curious about it, but I got my WP ready for my new machine, and I didn't have to spend a cent on it. Vetusware is love. That's also where I found recognita, the scanning software.
